Life-Lessons at Boca High

Uncategorized Mar 04, 2014

Last week I had the pleasure of teaching five classes to teens at Boca High. My new friend Stefanie Gross invited me in to share life-lessons with her students. Stefanie is an English teacher turned yoga instructor at this high school, and her classes are filled to the brim with students that may never have crossed paths, but through the unification of yoga, anything is possible! Stefanie is the creator of Move Through Yoga, as program for teens which she has assembled into a high school curriculum. My hero?? Ah….yes.

What amazed me so was how open these teens were to discussing their struggles and challenges. How alive they seemed to feel just being in a room where there was no judgement and the focus is on love and oneness. What a gift this school provides for their students, and how hungry the students are to share in what is real. I was amazed at the response I received from the classes. I had no idea what to expect, as the students could have yawned and paid no...

Finding Happiness with Smile TV

Uncategorized Mar 04, 2014

It’s been an amazing month with so much synchronicity, I think I want to write a song about it. I’ll tell you a story instead.

A few weeks ago my buddy, author David Mezzapelle Contagious Optimism had his first live production of his book series. It’s like TEDX on steroids, real people, real stories, inspiring music and amazing tales. What a way to spend the day! Lucky for me I met some incredible people who gathered to help create David’s vision.
Smile TV was on board for the event. As it turns out, Smile TV also had a hand in fundraising for Pursuing Happiness, the documentary in which I am proud to be an interviewee. So it looks to me as though the ‘smileys’ are destined to meet!

Of course, we fell hard for each other. Having a great passion for spreading joy and happiness makes us immediate best friends. What is most incredible to me about Smile TV, a network devoted to positive, inspirational news and programming, is it’s magnificent...

Talia’s Gift to The World

Uncategorized Feb 06, 2014

You know how everything happens for a reason and we are literally given a Divine road map if we choose to receive? Today was the perfect example of grace in action. After a wonderful yoga class with my favorite teacher, Tara, I stopped in to my favorite juice hub, Juicebuzz. What an amazing little place, full of love, great peeps and healthy delights. It is truly the Cheers of the health food world. (thank you Cathy Rosenberg for that reference!) I always meet the most interesting people at their bar, and enjoy talking to the juicers making all the love happen. As I was sipping on my greens, a woman said hello to me. She had attended my class earlier in the week. We got to talking and she told me about a place further south called Juiceateria, a vegan cafe and juice bar. She raved that I MUST try it. And so I did. My office is in the area of this new place she mentioned, so I thought I would stop in on my way and find out about all the rage. It was worth the trip.
The place is...

Welcoming Joy

Uncategorized Dec 26, 2013

It’s easy to get caught up in the same routine. Work work work, take care of household responsibilities, food shopping, laundry, scheduling, appointments…it can all be exhausting. So how do we find that spice in life when we have so many responsibilities? Good question.
I find it’s the little things, the small adventures that increase the amount of spice we experience. Doing things a little differently opens us up to the great vast experiences that await us. The world is waiting for us to say yes, we just have to oblige.

This Christmas we stayed home for the first time in years. It has become our family tradition to go on a cruise. I am sure glad we choose our home. We are having a ball. We decided to experience our town as if we were on vacation, and we are discovering things we didn’t know existed. And I believe we are getting a lot of signs saying “YES”. I will share one in particular with you.

Last night we went to a Polynesian restaurant...

Paying it Forward

Uncategorized Nov 20, 2013

You can’t make this stuff up! There is beauty and kindness and love in the world, and that makes me HAPPY!!
Today my husband went to McDonald’s for coffee. He does that routine every time we run out of caffeine. Today was a special day and I am delighted to share this cool story. He told me when he pulled up to the drive-through window to pay, the woman at the register told him his coffee had been paid for by the driver in front of him. My husband was perplexed and looked to see if he recognized the car in front. He didn’t. He inquisitively looked at the cashier and said, “really?,” and the woman told him this had been going on all morning. It was a chain reaction. How cool is that?? There was not a car behind him at the time, and my husband asked how he could keep the chain going. Soon after a car pulled up and my husband paid for the driver’s breakfast burrito. Wow! I love this story. This is the kind of love, generosity and kindness that breeds...

Do you Believe??

Last week I sent an email to my friend and colleague in the spiritual healing arena Deirdre about getting together for a smoothie and a catch up. Deirdre Abrami is a 6th generation psychic medium who holds workshops and trainings for others looking to hone in on their own psychic abilities. Is it strange to have a friend who has this ability? Well, when you are having lunch with someone and they point out a stomach ache you didn’t admit you were having….OK..a little. But she is as cute as can be and full of life and so what if she has messages for me from past loved ones while we’re sharing a cup of tea. What’s so bad about that?
My innocent email led to me accepting her invitation to be a guinea pig for her students. She was giving a workshop this weekend and asked if I would like to come over to her house and be read by her students. They needed the practice and I had an open afternoon. Why not? You can always expect goodies at Deirdre’s house too....

Choices and Illusions

Funny enough, today I had an experience which was no accident. Nothing ever is, really. I belong to a boot camp with over 500 members. It is a wonderful group and the only thing that keeps me going is the people..because the classes never seem to get any easier! The boot camp offers nutritional support, and a few times a year they do a group cleanse. Yes, it’s as awful as it sounds, but after a few too many cookies, I admit to myself my jeans are tight, and I refuse to by a new pair because I may have had one too many carbs! I ordered the products for my cleanse and forgot to order one component. The boot camp has an active Facebook group, so the owner put out a message to see if anyone happened to have any extra product I could purchase. The ONE person who responded (out of over 500 people) happened to be a friend I had not talked to in a while. At that very moment that I received the text that she had the product, I was emailing her husband whom I order my SpreadHappy car...

Life Lessons, Love and Gratitude, and our Furry Friends

Uncategorized Sep 27, 2013

Being a parent never ceases to amaze me. There are days when I literally think, “Where did you come from?”, and there are days when I just say thank you. This past summer we lost our cat Sam. He had been with me for sixteen years. He was super special. Super kitty was one of his many nick-names. Sam died when our daughter was away at overnight camp. Talia never got to say goodbye one last time. It’s been interesting to observe how she handles loss. She is nine years old and Sam has been by her side since the day she was born…although Sam did not like the crying baby very much. Too much noise for a sleepy kitty. There relationship blossomed and Sam has adorned almost every picture Talia has brought home from school. She even has a stuffed animal modeled after Sam which she has schlepped everywhere since the age of two. Sam was very special to us.

Have Some Compassion…

Uncategorized Sep 12, 2013

Yesterday I was speaking to a friend who shared some personal struggles. She is a mother of two. One of her children has been diagnosed with autism. It has consumed her life. Every free moment she has is spent trying to help her child, reading books, attending seminars, creating a strict diet and looking for a solution. I don’t know her very well, but it was evident the cards she has been dealt consume her.
As our conversation progressed, I realized the place where her frustration was coming from was not all due to her child’s health. With all of her busyness and concern, she had forgotten about herself. I had an overwhelming urge to tell this woman who I did not know very well to have compassion for herself. When this thought came to mind every hair on my body stood up at attention. I felt a ring of energy around me. I knew the strong message was not just for her, it was for me too.
So often we forget that it’s OK to have compassion for ourselves. We are used to...

Why I LOVE the Sexy Vegan

Uncategorized Aug 31, 2013

My idea of a good meal today is very different than it was fifteen years ago, when I thought accompanying my salad with a diet coke was a valid contribution to healthy eating. I distinctly remember the day I decided to take soda out of my diet. I was on my way to the gym listening to a radio interview in my car. Two women who had just written a book (I think it was Skinny Bitch) said something that shocked me enough–and I have never had a drop of soda since. One thing lead to another and I became extremely interested in healing with foods, and began learning more about processed foods, and how even fresh food in the U.S. is really not so fresh. It takes work to eat well folks! I ended up the hospital not long after that with a stomach issue that was never quite resolved. I had to be very careful with my food choices, afraid that the nasty stomach virus would come back and have another ‘go’ at me.
I was already a whole-foods convert becoming more and more...
