How to be Happy in Life

Uncategorized Jan 02, 2012

There are a lot of factors that play a role in being in a constant state of bliss and peace. My mantra and the mantra of spreadhappy.net (my website)* is to be grateful, be loving, be passionate, be. Yes, I do believe this is a strong position in the art of happiness, but I also believe being authentic and real is a  key ingredient as well. That coupled with loving and honest is a mixture for happiness. In life we are met with challenges that I like to label ‘experiences’. Challenges has a connotation that they are difficult, and that is a perception we choose with a negative twist, which is why I prefer the word experience. Life hands us these experiences so we can learn and grow. And with these experiences we have a choice to acknowledge them and make a change or a decision, or ignore them, and eventually go through the same thing again. Did you ever notice some people have re-occurring situations in their life, and they seem to always be...

How to Be Happy

Uncategorized Dec 19, 2011

The first thought that comes to mind, is surrender. Surrender to everything that is going on in your life, that is less than love. When we truly surrender and accept our circumstances, forgive ourselves and forgive others,  we start to notice the world speaking to us.  We open ourselves up to following the signs, we become aware of synchronicity, and begin to flow with life.    The world communicates to us when we let it.  Recently I have been documenting all the ‘coincedences’ in my life, and they are quite frequent, and quite amazing.  When you vow to surrender to  your happiness, your true essence, and choose love instead of any other emotion, a weight is lifted.  Life seems much lighter, much more pleasurable, joyous and free.  You make the decision to release yourself from this box you’ve been living in, that is truly cramping your style.  Imagine actually...

My Romance

A dear friend of mine lives abroad, and he has invited me to join his music club, to keep in touch with our spiritual and creative side. The friends of this group list the top songs they would want to have with them if by chance, they were stuck on a deserted island. At first, I thought to myself, ‘I can’t believe he is making me play this silly game!’ But as not to disappoint (I have been known to be a pleas-er), I gave the game some thought. The idea is to send an email each day for twelve days, each including a favorite song. Each song is shared with a u-tube version, if by chance it exists. It’s really been quite fun to hear songs that I never gave much thought to, and be reminded of some which I now realize I love! At first, when I wasn’t taking the task very seriously, I just rambled off the first thing that came to mind. But when I started to open the emails, and listen to the tunes, I realized what a cool gift this was! Music is emotional, so...

Being Authentic

Uncategorized Nov 14, 2011

Last week I experienced true bliss attending a workshop on ‘Coaching Happiness’ with Robert Holden, Ph.D., author of Be Happy, Shift Happens, (just a few of his works) and happiness guru to Oprah. Really! His kind and generous nature allows me to share his teachings, as completing the course earns me the title ‘Certified Happiness Coach’. And initially, that is why I thought I was going…to become certified. And while I did receive that title, what I actually received was so much more…almost indescribable. I received the gift of learning who I really am, and what a gift that is. I recieved  confirmation in my own teachings.  I am as I should be at this moment…and at this moment I am qualified to teach happiness.  What I teach is from the heart, and that is the only confirmation I need.  I received peace, love, the love of others, and life-long friendships. I received the magic of spending time with like-minded...

Gratitude=Happiness

Uncategorized Oct 27, 2011

I am so thankful to have the privilege of working with many beautiful people. I do notice a common thread…and the thread is a deterrent to happiness. We tend to make a  mistake, we focus on the negative. We focus on what is wrong in our lives, instead of what is right. And the law of attraction states that we manifest what we think about. So if we know this, why do we waste our precious thoughts drowning ourselves in our sorrows?
It’s human nature. When there is a drama, we talk about it, maybe even gossip, and stir the pot. All this does is make the situation muddier, and last longer. The trick is to take the focus away from something that makes us unhappy, and focus on what makes us happy! This wonderful tactic is truly life-changing. Instead of looking at what we view as ‘not-perfect’ (and that is a loose term) look at what we view as perfect! Perfect is a choice, it is a vision, a philosophy. It is one that I highly recommend adapting into...

The Spreadhappy Philosophy

Uncategorized Sep 06, 2011

The idea of finding happiness, joy and appreciation in life is of course meant for the individual. But in essence, the idea is global. Imagine what would happen if we all really appreciated the little things in life? I mean really appreciated them? I went for a walk yesterday along A1A in the morning. Just me and my headphones.  I find that music has the ability to make us feel really happy…and sometimes really sad (if you hear a song that reminds you of a sad movie, or a sad time in your life). I like to listen to music when I walk, and yesterday my artist of choice was Santana (who happens to be a very spiritual dude, by the way. I only know this because I have read about him, and I assume this information is correct!) So as I am listening to Santana on Pandora, I notice this flock of birds flying above. They were absolutely amazing! There were about twelve of them, and I watched there pattern as they flew in unison in the sky. It was incredible, like a...

Learn to respond, not react

Uncategorized Aug 18, 2011

This powerful Buddhist philosophy is so very important in maintaining peace and calm in our daily lives.  If I asked you to tell me what it is that you really want out of life…what would the answer be?  At first blush, your answer may be things that are tangible…but if you have those things, do they necessarily bring happiness?  Do they bring peace?  If your answer is peace, calm and complacency, those ‘tangibles’ will naturally flow to you, because you are open to receiving.  You are in a state of joy, love, appreciation, gratitude…and when we are in this state, all good things naturally occur.  It is the law of attraction in action.  What we think about, we bring about.  So if we are in state of focusing on peace, being kind to others, responding with love even if we may not be receiving love at that moment, love will show up.  I bring this up because this philosophy pertains to events that go on in our...

Pay it Forward

Uncategorized Jul 28, 2011

The movie ‘Pay it Forward’ was on last night, and my friend Patty has been telling me I must see it for quite some time. I watched the first half and Patty actually called (of course-there are no coincidences), so I did not see the end, but I certainly got the idea. The premise of the movie is that you don’t have to have a reason to help some one, and you shouldn’t expect anything in return. Just helping one another is the reward. That is the way I live my life, and I realize not everyone thinks that way. In fact, I have found in the game of life, that some people think my kindness is fake or an act, and that is fine. It doesn’t stop me from being who I am. I finally stopped allowing myself to be hurt by that, and just accept and send blessings and happy thoughts their way. The reason I feel this is so important right now, is because the majority of Americans are suffering in this financial crisis, and they might live right next door to you....

Inner Peace

Uncategorized May 31, 2011

Yesterday I took my daughter to see Kung Fu Panda 2. The message of the story was: to be fulfilled, you must find inner peace. At the end of the film, Poh the Panda makes a wise discovery. He realizes that his past doesn’t matter, and he has a choice to be happy. He can choose his attitude. He discovers that he has spent a lot of useless energy worrying about his childhood. Once he discovers his past, he comes to the conclusion that it doesn’t matter at all. You choose who you are today. This was such a priceless message to share with my seven-year-old. No shock to anyone that knows me, it brought tears to my eyes. We all have made ‘mistakes’ in the past, but that label doesn’t serve us. We have acquired learning experiences, and life lessons. Once we can release our-self from judgement, we can enjoy the magic of the moment, and vow to love more, live more, and appreciate more. As Poh the Panda says, the past doesn’t matter. The only thing that is...

Be Childlike

Uncategorized May 11, 2011

In childhood, not too much bothers us.  We are carefree, full of hope, and incapable of doubt.  We believe we can fly, be superheroes, and conquer all.  Sadly, this dream diminishes as we get older, and we become blocked and conditioned to feel in-adequate, not good enough, and embrace fear.  The truth is we are all superheros, we all have the capacity to create any lifestyle we want, if we embrace that childlike attitude.  The only thing that stops us from living the life we dream of is ourselves.  We get in the way with ‘I can’t', ‘that will never happen’, and ‘that’s impossibe’.  If we can remember to have faith and trust that if we keep ourselves focused on our dreams, and work hard to manifest them, they do come true.  It’s not as simple as wishing on a star, we do have to take action.  But it’s about believing in ourselves, and trusting that if our intentions are pure and for the...
